Descripción

Right Start for Colorado is offering two trainings focused on assessing the relational context of infants and young children in March and April 2023: the Working Model of the Child Interview and the Crowell Parent-Child Interaction Procedure, presented by expert faculty from Tulane University's School of Medicine, Drs. Julie Larrieu, PhD and Sherryl Scott Heller, PhD.

These trainings are intended for Colorado-based clinical mental health providers who treat the 0-5 population. A comprehensive relationship assessment that assesses both the internal and external components of caregiver-child relationships is best practice in infant/early childhood mental health.

The Working Model of the Child Interview will take place virtually on March 8th and 9th, 2023 from 8:30a.m.-4:30p.m. MT. both days. The Working Model of the Child Interview is a structured interview administered to a caregiver that assesses a caregiver’s internal representations, or working models, of their relationship with a particular child. It helps clinicians better understand how caregivers think and feel about their young children and is one very helpful component of a relationship assessment that can inform treatment planning.

The Crowell Parent-Child Interaction Procedure will take place virtually on April 13th-14th, 2023 from 8:30a.m.-4:30p.m. MT. both days. The Crowell Procedure provides a method of assessing caregiver-young child behavioral interactions in a clinical setting. It involves a series of eight episodes including a free play, clean-up, blowing bubbles, several developmentally graded teaching tasks and a brief separation and reunion. The procedure is designed to elicit behaviors that allow the clinician to focus on the relationship between a child and his or her caregiver in a setting that is unstructured enough to allow for “real-life” or spontaneous interactions. The Crowell is one component of a comprehensive parent-child relationship assessment that can inform treatment planning and is often administered in conjunction with a Working Model of the Child Interview.

Applications closed on Monday, January 30th at 5p.m. MST. We are not accepting late applications.
