Description

The Working Model of the Child Interview is a structured clinical interview that assesses a caregiver’s internal representations, or working models, of their relationship with a particular child. It helps clinicians better understand how caregivers think and feel about their young children. The Working Model of the Child Interview can be one very helpful component of a larger, comprehensive relationship assessment that informs dyadic IECMH clinical treatment.

Learning Objectives

As a result of attending this training participants can expect to:
  • Understand the importance of assessing caregivers’ perceptions of their young children.
  • Learn how to clinically administer the Working Model of the Child Interview (WMCI).
  • Learn how to clinically interpret the WMCI.  
  • Identify areas of clinical concern within a caregiver-young child relationship that may benefit from IECMH treatment. This training will support clinicians to in the administration and clinical interpretation of the WMCI.

Target Audience

  • ​​​​​​Master’s or doctoral-level psychotherapists with a degree in a mental health discipline
  • Have foundational knowledge of infant and early childhood mental health
  • Clinicians/supervisors who provide dyadic infant mental health psychotherapy services and have a clinical caseload of clients ages birth to five and their caregivers.

Training Cost

This training is provided by Right Start for Colorado with generous funding from SAMHSA and members of the Colorado Early Childhood Funders Network including Buell, Caring for Colorado, Community First, Piton and Zoma Foundations, thus it is offered no cost to participants.
