Description

DC:0-5™ is the Diagnostic Classification of Mental Health and Developmental Disorders of Infancy and Early Childhood published by ZERO TO THREE. DC:0-5 is the revised and updated DC:0-3R and was created to provide developmentally specific, relationship based and contextually grounded diagnostic criteria and information about mental health disorders in infants and young children.

The DC:0-5 Overview training is designed for allied professionals who work with infants, young children and their families and want a better understanding of infant and early childhood mental health and the emotional and behavioral challenges very young children may experience. These 2-hour workshops will support professionals to spot the early signs of distress in young children and feel more comfortable and confident in making referrals to mental health services, when indicated.  Over the last two years, hundreds of mental health professionals in Colorado have been trained to use this diagnostic system. As the next step, it is essential that frontline workers are aware of these diagnostic criteria such that we can bridge the gap between the number of young children with unaddressed mental health needs and available IECMH clinical services.

Format

These clinical training institutes are available in extended-day (full-day session plus 2-hour evening session on same day), 2-day formats or virtual offerings across 3 half-days.

Learning Objectives

Attendees will learn about the multi-axial approach to diagnosis, an approach which is developmentally informed, relationship-based, contextually and culturally grounded.

Target Audience

Anyone who works with young children ages 0-5 and their families or has an interest in doing so.

This training is provided by Right Start for Colorado with generous funding from SAMHSA and members of the Colorado Early Childhood Funders Network including Buell, Caring for Colorado, Community First, Piton and Zoma Foundations, thus it is offered at no cost to participants.
